Mushroom Kit Instructions

Oyster Kit Instructions

These instructions can be used for our Blue, White, and Pink Oyster kits.
(See instructions for Garden Giant kits here).

Place your Oyster Kit either indoors or outside under bright, indirect sunlight or bright artificial light. Open the plastic outer bag; this is the "humidity tent". Open the box by folding back the box lid. Leave contents in the box. Keep the lid and the humidity tent open for the life of the kit. Holes have already been created in the inner bag to allow for the fruiting of mushroom clusters. Do not remove the inner bag from the substrate. Maintain the appropriate temperatures for your kit:

White Oyster: 55-75° F
Blue Oyster: 45-65° F
Pink Oyster: 65-85° F

Lightly mist through the opening in the top of the humidity tent with water to maintain a high moisture level when mushrooms are present. Small mushrooms will begin to form in approximately 1-2 weeks.

Harvest clusters of mushrooms before the caps unfurl. Clusters will mature in approximately 4-8 days. If stems are elongated and caps are small, increase light exposure. To remove clusters, grab and twist. Always cook your mushrooms.

After the kit has finished the initial fruiting, maintain high humidity levels inside the tent by misting to encourage the second fruiting of mushrooms.

Caring for your Oyster Kit

Lion’s Mane Kit Instructions

Place your Lion’s Mane Kit either indoors or outside under bright, indirect sunlight or bright artificial light. Place the box into the plastic bag (provided inside the box) with the opening of the bag facing up. This is to maintain humidity around the kit. Open the box by folding back the box lid. Leave contents in the box. Keep the lid and the outer plastic bag open for the life of the kit. Cut 2 small ¼ inch slits with a clean knife on the top of the inner bag to allow for the fruiting of mushroom clusters. Do not remove the inner bag from the substrate.

Maintain the appropriate temperatures and humidity for your kit: 65°-75° F, 90-95% humidity

Lightly mist through the opening in the top of the humidity tent with (bottle mister provided) water to maintain a high moisture level when mushrooms are present. Small mushrooms will begin to form in approximately 1-2 weeks.

Harvest clusters of mushrooms when small shaggy spines (teeth) develop. Mushrooms will mature in approximately 7-14 days. If mushrooms are wispy and not very dense, increase light exposure and airflow. To remove clusters, grab and twist. Always cook your mushrooms before eating.

After the kit has finished the initial fruiting, flip over the kit inside the box and cut 2 new holes to maintain high humidity levels inside the tent by misting to encourage second fruiting of mushrooms.

Reishi Kit Instructions

Place your Reishi Kit either indoors or outside under bright, indirect sunlight or bright artificial light. Open the box and remove the mushroom kit, instructions and mister. Fold box flaps inside the box. Place the mushroom kit back into the box. Do not open the bag at this time.

Once fruiting bodies have grown 3-10 inches tall the top of the grow bag can be cut open. The mushroom grow-bag can be left closed to encourage longer “antler” formation if desired. After the bag is cut open mist daily into the grow bag to maintain high humidity.

Reishi mushrooms have a very high spore load. To minimize spore dispersal cut the bag as close to the top as possible and harvest mushrooms early when spores become visible.

Maintain the appropriate temperatures and humidity for your kit:

70° to 80° Degrees

95-100% Humidity

Harvest mushrooms after 30 to 40 days or once new white growth has stopped. To remove mushrooms cut along the base of the mushroom just above the sawdust block.

Reishi mushrooms can be sliced and dried to be used in teas or tinctures.
